The glue gun to the soul

We survive by the darkest of days,
And live by the brightest of nights.
Sleep with the comfort of coffins-
Awake in beds feeling empty inside.

Cold to touch my friend;
We shiver with liquor
Running through our veins.

This elixir is our coping mechanism
to ease each other’s pain.

We use it to celebrate death and success
For one’s success dies with their name.

Dave clouds the room with tears.
Raise your glass to a man
Who was a father to us.
He made boys grow into men.

As the elixir seeps to my soul

I get the warmth of Mr. Ellington.

Politics in my Expedition

We puff puff pass
As we discuss about politicians

We grew up in a system
Where the dopiest politician
Is selling hope in mass quantities
To those of the darker pigment.

Dave extrapolates...

To those who’ve lied about changing race
In no haste he states.
Obama can’t move mountains
Unless Congress opens their mind
About the topic of race

We began to exchange the blunt a lot slower.
For conversation has taken place,
I start speaking…..

And in words we dare not mention
We find traces of racism
Repeat in the penal system.
This is dedicated to those who don’t read
Before they listen.
For it’s the document that speaks the truth.
And the mouth that echoes lies from a distance.

Hoping to put thoughts in the minds of my brothers

As we exhale and inhale

No Glass Slipper in her Picture

I

Brought my play sis Ty to my guy Sean crib
She had just turned 18
Her body ripe with the beauty of an angel
And the goddess of the night
Her skin was coco butter soft
And she had this pure image that would never fade to dark
Tomorrow she would go to prom
She had a thing for all my friends
Tonight she didn’t know it was going to go down with all of them

Donald, Brian, and Jason
Were drink and having fun
Pass Ty the bottle
She gulped it all and it was all gone
Instead of seeing one
Now she’s seeing two.

I saw her flirting with everyone that was part of the crew.
Told her don’t be that girl who fucks everyone in the group.
She giggled and said I’m still a virgin.
No plans on sexing till I meet that one dude.
Little did she know it wasn’t one but four that she would get around to

II

The party winding down
The clock had hit past twelve
This pretty little Cinderella
Couldn’t put herself together
Had to carry her to the truck
Because the liquor had made her stuck

I tried to address the issue by making a move myself
Instead she left the truck
And stumbled her way into the lap of someone else

I chase her into the house
I see her undressing on the couch
Baring it all she opens mouth
Starts kissing Donald in Sean’s house

Sean comes in the room to see it all
He approaches her an began to take off his drawls
Takes hand to her head and place dick upon her jaw

I leave the room for I couldn’t bear to see
My play sis turn into a statistic in front of me.
Brian heads to the room
Says I’m going to get me some too
Jason followed suit
As I sit outside the room

I hear faint noises I didn’t want to hear from her
I hear weeping as if tears occurred
I feel bad but then I think to myself
I tried to stop what had occurred

The smell of sex was in the air.
I left because the scent was to nauseating to bear

I get a call the next morning
Bro I don’t remember what happened when I was there
And I couldn’t find my underwear….

In her voice I hear she’s scared
I  said nothing happened to you

I swear

Trips in the Expedition

Pass the blunt
Drake plays in the trunk
First summer back from school
Midnights were a misty blue
Navy wavy clouds above
All five of us in my truck
David starts reciting lyrics from Thank Me Later
Show me a good time, o yea

Esta pass the blunt!
High school
Reminiscing about how we were cool
Gods we were,
we even ruled
KD laughs don't forget how we partied too
Tunde jokes about who got the most ass
High school was the best times we ever had

Pass the blunt
As for a moment time has gone counterclockwise
And the weed has us in reverse

Expedition's in my Expedition
Stood still but the high is what kept our minds tripping
Smoke clears and the laughs continue
Were high doing silly things

that high bonded us between many high school dreams

Prom

I
Karma would catch up to me
I made a foolish decision to deny a beauty queen
The night before prom
Karma called to see when I would pick her up.
I had to tell Karma she wasn’t the one.
And I begin hearing the river of tears turn into flood.
This poor girl’s heart I broke because I had my selfish needs
I wanted the more likely chance of getting lucky between the sheets
On the day of prom my tailor came to visit me.
He said the vest wasn’t ready
A delay that was very pressing.
In the back of my mind I knew this couldn’t get any worse.
I received a call from my date and she said I’m ready when you are

II
I chose a girl I felt would better suit my prom night dreams.
Delilah was everything a man can want
Carmel skin, long legs and hair draping past her breasts
Here attire was a mint green dress
Her smile stole my lips as I gave her a kiss
I was in love with the cocoon instead of what really mattered.
She was worth every Kodak moment I pulled out her.
At prom people envied me for all they saw was who I brought.
Those fifteen minutes of fame
Did justice to my name
I was excited to see if my wishes would come true
Or this night die with my third eye blind to her tunnel of youth….

III
Instead she turned out to be just as deceiving as me
She was my Cinderella for the night, but at 12
She turned dark. The cold look in her eyes.
I saw the decision before she spoke
In her pretty perfect image
She said the nastiest things to me which hurt the most
She told me she was going to leave with her friends
Without asking how I would feel.
She was supposed to be my date to the prom
But instead I was her free ticket out the deal…..

IV
I felt betrayed, but that’s Karma’s way of catching up to me.
Karma walks past me as she notices my date fleeing away from me.
A decorated grin seemed to strike her face
I know Karma should have been my first choice by the way
As the night hits one I leave into a limo without a date
But find the guilty pleasures of whiskey being passed my way
I take a sip and pass it to my best friend Shay.
Hours later Shay ends on top of me.

V
Karma would catch up to me
I chose a girl I felt would better suit my prom night dreams
Instead she turned out to be just as deceiving as me
I felt betrayed, but that’s Karma’s way of catching up to me.

Blame it on Karma

Am I falling
Am I falling
Head hits dash
Crash!

The sun so glowing in the mid of day
Light headed memories of childhood begin to flash
As the driver in the car speeds off
23G9 LM7
23G9 LM7
23G9 LM7
I recite the license plate over and over
My friends think I’m suffering from a head collision
David shakes me to snap out of it
KD jumps out the driver’s seat to make it look like I was driving
All I can think about is the license plate
Terrence begins to call the cops as I continue to recite.

To think that it was 2pm on the north side of Chicago
Where the rich live on gold and the poor know no home.
Down the street from where we would stay that weekend
And I was t-bone by a guy who hit and ran like I didn’t want to live for a tomorrow
I was confused
23G9 LM7
At that moment at that date I knew Karma was still catching up to me.
2 days before the crash there was the school assembly about prom weekend
And how there is a great chance of being in a car crash.
Who would have thought this was real?
Who would have thought I’d be that statistic?

After the cops find the guy and we wrote the report.
Me, Dave, Terrence, and KD started laughing till we cried

Because they didn’t know why I was reciting 23G9 LM7 over and over again.
